Cava is an oddity in that it is both a production method and a wine producing region of Spain. Although there are other regions in Spain which produce the high quality sparkling wines, 95% of cava wines come from Penedes in the northeast corner of the Iberian peninsular.

The cava wines are made from the big three traditional Catalan grape varieties: macabeo, xarel io and parrellada. In order for the cava wines to become sparkling wines they undergo a second fermentation in the bottle which produces the sparkle. The soil and the vineyards in the area provide ideal growing conditions for this wine which represents both quality and excellent value for money.
